Autism Awareness Day 💙 means so much more to me than just spreading information. Each year, it’s also a time to reflect on our boys’ journeys — how far they’ve come, the obstacles they’ve overcome, and the strength they show every single day. Autism is not a superpower, for us, and I’ve been more honest when people insinuate that it is. Autism is hard, it is a struggle every day. It is a Spectrum, a very wide Spectrum, so to some maybe it is their superpower, but for us it is not. The hard work that goes in to every day normal things for you, is a struggle for them. Little things that you take for granted, like your child, coming home and telling you about their day, we rarely get those moments. Think about that, when you get to experience it and parents like us don’t. All we ask on this day and this month, is to educate yourself and educate your children on Signs to look for in another child, and to be kind if you see them struggling. They are not being difficult on purpose, they’re overstimulated, or frustrated because they can’t get what they’re feeling across. At the end of the day, all we ask is to just be kind, and to take care of our boys when we are not around, because they can’t tell us if you or somebody else was mean to them, they don’t understand if somebody was mean to them. We are endlessly proud of them and grateful for every step forward, big or small that they’ve taken through the years, and will continue to 💙 Follow us to stay educated all year long @broswith_autism 💙
